When you or I set out to buy a pen as a gift for someone special the first thing we look at is the pen's appearance: is the basic material attractive? Does it have a balanced, proportional shape? How about fit and finish

We also want the pen to fit the person. A petite woman with small hands may not be able to comfortably use a larger, heavier pen, while a person with arthritis may have difficulty holding a smaller pen.

It is, of course, very important that the pen works, and works correctly. There are two main parts to this. The first is the mechanism that exposes the point by clicking, twisting or removing a cap - - is it smooth with positive feedback? The second is the ink dispensing mechanism, be it ballpoint, roller ball or fountain pen - - is it almost effortless with no drag or scratching?

Finally we need to think about what we cannot see: endurance. We want this special person to think of us every time they use the pen and we want that to continue for many years. If the pen remains attractive and continues to operate correctly then we will be remembered the same way. If not, well....

Our Styles

Today's pen maker is blessed with a very, very wide range of options in terms of styles and materials. We have scoured the internet to look at the work of many other craftspeople who are making and selling pens today. We have not found a single one that tackles more than a fraction of the available options - - and we won't either. In fact, we have decided to restrict our offerings to only five styles.
